SoftSystems is an Art & Design studio contributing to the human experience via The Sensory & Somatic Systems utilizing light, intention & color. We create engines by which we can world build — developing design languages and their core functions as per project needs.

Position

We work between architecture, performance and the nervous system. A room is a signal chain: light is the carrier, color is the message, and the body is the receiver.

Thesis

That’s where SoftSystems decides to set up its playground.

Spatial audio system

We designed a system that translates sound frequencies into their equivalent color frequencies, creating an environment where audio and visual wavelengths merge into a unified field. By surrounding the user in this harmonic interplay of light and sound, the experience was intended to gently calibrate the nervous system and encourage a state of resonance and balance. The result was both immersive and restorative, offering a novel way to experience music as a full-spectrum sensory alignment.

Rolling Hills Intimate Sessions

(Co-Concept + Design)
Footprint
100 ft × 83 ft
Mounds
Metal tube frame, wood shell
Ramps
Modular, stacked in pairs
Air
Curated scent, enriched O₂

We designed an intimate indoor performance environment for Daniel Caesar, inspired by the organic contours of rolling hills where audiences could sit on real grass and feel grounded in nature. The atmosphere was enhanced through curated scents and enriched oxygen gently infused throughout the venue, paired with dynamic and algorithmic lighting to envelop the audience in a fully immersive environment. By harmonizing environment, atmosphere, and sound, the concept aimed to create a profoundly personal and lasting experience that elevated the artist’s sonic storytelling.

Beyond traditional stereo

We created a modular open-baffle speaker array designed to diffuse sound into an airy and spacious sound stage that invited curiosity and deeper connection with the project. Arranged in a circular formation, each unit carried an array of drivers that shaped a new and immersive way of experiencing music beyond traditional stereo. The environment was completed with floor meditation cushions, encouraging participants to settle in, feel comfortable, and fully be present in the show.

Live in-house cameras

Rooted in three pillars — fabric, projection, and light — the concept imagines lighting as a living, breathing system. Light becomes reactive, shifting in real time to the dynamics of the environment, while projection extends the experience of the moment, acting as a visual echo of the 24-hour narrative. Sheer surfaces double as canvases, capturing live in-house camera feeds of the ecosystem. Every element is interconnected, creating a sensory dialogue between viewer, space, and story. The result is an immersive and intelligent environment that feels alive, yet subtle.

We reimagined Republic Records’ Chelsea office as a social-engineered environment designed to foster collaboration, creativity, and connection between artists and their reps. The main spaces were shaped to gently nudge interaction, while the basement offered a lounge-like retreat for reading, reflection, and more casual exchanges, complemented by a bookstore-inspired feature to spark curiosity and dialogue. The top floor was envisioned as a flexible cultural hub, equipped with a Dolby listening room and intimate bar to host private events.

For an intimate underplay session with Daniel Caesar, we designed a performance environment that reflected the artist’s state of mind, mood, and personal needs. A small viewing area centered around a single screen was paired with a subtle, purposeful lighting design that emphasized intimacy over spectacle. The result was a stripped-back yet powerful setting that highlighted Caesar’s artistry while fostering a deep and direct connection between artist and audience.

Lighting object design for a developing design studio, MotherMoth. A pair of objects built from one idea — a folded plate that holds a slot of opal light. Booth B30

For ComplexCon, we designed a stripped-back booth concept that embraced simplicity while maximizing presence through bold use of color. By coating the structure in a vivid, bright orange, the booth commanded attention, creating a moment that stopped individuals in their tracks without the need for excessive detail or ornamentation. The intentional color choice served as both a spatial anchor and an emotional trigger, activating intrigue, energy, and excitement in the crowd.
